Within This Cleft

Where once a playful youth so living
did mock at coming years
And self was all consuming
but not having many fears

But as the ages came and left
their callusing effect
Like razors in an icy cleft
ploughed furrows so erect

The winds of time did scorch my soul
with things cruel and appalling
To sculpt the shaft which I took hold
The scepter of heavenly calling

In front the Red sea now confines
and beckons a mocking sneer
With Pharaoh's army close behind
the sun begins to sear

And as I throw my memories back
upon those years so fair
memories of a youthful knack
and things I'd done on dare

By Heaven's command I set my face
to avoid the Devil's fee
I've sold my past to purchase faith
and walked toward the sea

And now I stand on tested ground
departing from this shore
then all at once there is the sound
of a rushing water's snore

And as I walk the waves collide
retreating as I go
and pilling up on either side
it knows I am it's foe

So here I walk within this cleft
hemmed in with in the sea
wrapped tight within GOD's decrees
that is GOD's grace protecting me
